The UNTV Cup Executive Face Off will conclude with a do-or-die finals match-up between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Cavaliers and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Responders scheduled tonight at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Also known as a charitable basketball tourney, a P 1-million cash prize awaits the chosen beneficiary of the champion team while 500 thousand pesos will be given to the partner charity organization of the runners up. These charitable institutions turn out to be Cavaliers’ AFP Education Benefits Systems Office and the Responders’ Sangguniang Masang Pilipino International Foundation (SMPIFI) Inc.
Both teams are known for fast-paced, high-octane offenses and lockdown defenses that will surely be a big blast for the UNTV Cup basketball league fans.
The offseason pocket tournament, which is organized by UNTV News and Rescue channel for participating government agencies, was conceived by its head honcho Daniel Razon specifically for high-ranking executives aged 40 and above.
The championship ceremonies, which is scheduled 6pm tonight, will also feature a curtain-raising exhibition game between the UNTV Cup Offseason All-Star selection and PBA Legends.
The PBA Legends Team, composed of UNTV Cup Commissioner Atoy Co and Deputy Commissioner Ed Cordero, Ramon Fernandez, Jerry Codinera, Jojo Lastimosa, Ronnie Magsanoc, Allan Caidic, Dindo Pumaren, Vince Hizon, Olsen Racela, Noli Locsin, Bogs Adornado, Pido Jarencio, Philip Cezar, Alvin Patrimonio, Bong Hawkins and Kenneth Duremdes, will go against top government executives like Senator Joel Villanueva, BOC Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, DOJ Undersecretary Erickson Balmes, PCGG Commissioner Reynold Munsayac and Supreme Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez.
Another P1-million peso grant will be given by UNTV as proceeds of this exhibition game to the charity group Samahan ng mga Dating Propesyonal na Basketbolista ng Pilipinas for the benefit of former professional players in need of medical assistance.
