The Malacañang Kamao and the Philippine National Police Responders do battle once again as the UNTV Cup season 5 championship series shifts to the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday for its second game.
The Responders look to even the series at one apiece as the Palace five escaped with a nail-biter, 82-81, to claim the first game of the best-of-three series last Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Former UST Tigers guard Christian Luanzon powered the Kamao comeback from 8 points down in the first quarter of the first game with 29 points and 11 rebounds while amateur standout Eric Dela Cuesta fired 23 points with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Luanzon said in a post-game interview, “We’re gonna go back sa tape. Tignan naten saan pa kami mag-i-improve.”
He added of the PNP five, “This is a very tough team. Kapag binigyan pa namin sila ng pagkakataon sa next game para i-tie 1-1, it’s anybody’s ballgame Game 3, so we’re gonna make sure na we’re gonna do everything that we can para i-close out na yung game Tuesday next week.”
Meanwhile, Dela Cuesta recalled the slow start of the Kamao that almost cost them the game. “Kelangan start strong kami kasi nung first quarter kanina medyo nag-sluggish yung umpisa namin kaya tinambakan kami. So, luckily nakuha namin yung rhythm namin pagdating ng second quarter, pagdating ng third at fourth yun nakuha na namin kaya siguro kami nanalo sa game na ito.”
TV network UNTV News and Rescue, through the efforts of its CEO and veteran broadcaster Daniel Razon, will give away more than 10 million pesos to the winning teams and their chosen partner charitable institutions.
A deciding Game 3 will be on March 21, if necessary.
